At least 3 volunteer firefighters on the island all year round

Fire Island Pines' volunteer fire department is minimally staffed for two-thirds of the year. When a fire breaks out off-season or overnight, the response is dangerously thin. A single fire can become a multi-home disaster in minutes on a barrier island with no road access.

FIPFire's mission: fund at least 3 volunteer firefighters living on Fire Island Pines year-round — so the community always has trained responders on the island, not just in summer.

Renter Fire Awareness

Renters are a significant fire risk on Fire Island Pines. Unfamiliar with the island's unique dangers — wooden boardwalks, no road access, ocean winds — they often don't know the basics that could save a home.

FIPFire's Renter Fire Awareness program is a free community education initiative. We deliver fire safety education through:
